Only Child x Seasons + Salt Alta Top

June 6, 2017

Every once in awhile I get the idea for something I would love to wear and I can see it perfectly in my head. Usually it would fill a critical hole in my closet too. But then, when I consult the internet or my favorite local shops to find this item (or something very similar) I am let down.

When it comes to shirts, white is almost always my go-to choice for what to wear. I have a white t-shirt that I love and have worn many times over the last three years. And thankfully, it still looks beautiful. BUT, I was ready for a grown-up version of my favorite white tee – I wanted a go-to white linen top. I looked around, tried a few different options, but kept running into details that were deal-breakers for me: sleeves that were too wide to fit under a cardigan, hemlines that were too long and would always need to be tucked, off-white instead of white.

It felt like the unicorn shirt.

So I turned to my designer-friend Haley, who owns Only Child, and the Only Child x Seasons + Salt Alta Top was born.

It’s the perfect, everyday linen shirt, in the perfect shade of white or Salt. (See what we did there?)

As usual, Haley’s talent and eye for detail are demonstrated in this Salt Alta Top. I loved it when she first released it in Beige, Cotton Ikat and Denim, but White has my heart, and it has truly made this style come to life for me. The trapeze cut hem lends a polished and finished look without the need for any front-tucking. The longer hemline in the back also means, no unwanted drafts or exposed skin.

And the part I’m most excited for? I can easily layer sweaters/cardigan/jackets over this top without fussing over the sleeves! I anticipate my Salt Alta Top being a year-round closet winner.

I look forward to experimenting with several ways to style this top including: with my Kamm pants (obviously), over my flax colored jumpsuit by Sotela, with my olive green Clyde work pants, and over my chambray dress, just to name a few! Oh, and if I pair this top with my cut offs shorts, it might just be a passable shorts-centric combo.

If you’re joining us on the June 30×30, consider adding the Salt Alta Top before you start your shopping fast. Or, snatch it up as soon as your retail break is over. I have a feeling it is a piece we will all wear for a long time.

Looks gorgeous but I cannot imagine wearing white with kiddos. How do let them touch you?!?

Ha! Great queation! In a nutshell I’m careful and I’ve gotten really good at removing stains. I always wear an apron when I cook, and often when I do dishes. I worry more about red wine and pasta than my kids. But like I said, I’ve been able to get most anything out of my clothes (I’m tenacious!) except grease, that’s the strongest buggar. When all else fails there is bleach! Though I’ve never gotten to that point. ;)

I love me some linen! Definitely one of my favorites I have seen you post…. When I am back from my summer work tour (aka my shopping fast) I’m looking forward to shopping with some of the companies you recommend!

      Yay! Excited to hear that!

Love it Andrea! Are you wearing the XS/S? The possibilities are endless with this one – accessories, outerwear, pants!

Hi Pav! I have the S/M and the fit is perfect. There are garment measurements of each item on the Only Child site, in case that helps!

I love the Alta top and have it in the beige linen. Such a pretty shirt! I do wish it came in some kind of petite though because it’s not cropped at all on me (I’m 5’3″). If I could get a petite version, I’d order the white AND the denim :)

I love the beige linen! It’s such a pretty shade. Have you contacted Haley? Maybe she’d consider doing a petite version?

Wow. This outfit is sophisticated and relaxed at the same time. Winner.

PS Thank you for thinking about tops that you can wear under cardigans. I live in a state with four seasons and when it’s hot outside the ac is blasting in most businesses which means that I always need to throw something on over my tops. This one is going on my wish list for sure.

Me too! Four seasons here! And I really dislike committing to a top that can only be worn a few of them. I feel like this top comes off a little more cropped with a cardigan or something else on top of it (the weight of a second garment seems to pull the back down a touch, bringing the front shorter). I noticed that while wearing it today, and I must say, I liked the look of the more cropped top! Of course I made sure my tummy was still covered though. ;) Not feeling like I need to share that with the world!

OMG YES TOTALLY BUYING THIS. I have had a hard time finding linen pieces I like to add to my summer wardrobe (randomly my favorites are from Lithuanian stores on Etsy?? But haven’t purchases yet). I love the shape of this shirt, I have an Everlane tank with the similar high/low cut and I loooove it for summer because it gives my often sweaty midsection a little breeze :)

Yes, it totally is breezy! The loose fit really helps keep cool! Keep me posted Anne!
