Everlane’s $100 Cashmere returned today, reinforcing the attainability of this luxury category of sweaters for those of us who don’t want to shell out $200+. They included four new styles at the $100 price point, including: a v-neck, a crew, a cropped v-neck and a cropped mock neck (in addition to two men’s styles.) They are available in several colors including stripes, and my all time favorite, donegal.
HOW I WEAR MINE
These puppies are the building blocks of my winter closet. They are soft and warm, thin enough to wear as a base layer.
About a year and a half ago I bought my first, ever, cashmere sweater. It was the donegal cropped sweater from Everlane’s winter 2016 line.
That fall I added a crewneck in camel… 
…and by winter I rounded out my set with a black v-neck.
SIZING
Traditionally I’ve always worn mediums in my cashmere sweaters from Everlane, and the same goes for nearly every other top I’ve ever purchased there. I’m 5’7″ / size 6 and the mediums are slightly loose. If I buy any new cashmere this winter, I might consider a small, as the proportions I’ve been wearing lately have been shifting. I’m often sporting looser bottoms and, naturally, tops with a more fitted shape seem to go best with them. I do wish Everlane would release a cute, puffed-sleeve cashmere sweater with a nice, fitted waistband. But that might just be the vintage-lover in me. I’ll be keeping an eye out for their secondary release later this week.
QUALITY + CARE
By far, the donegal cropped crewneck is my favorite of my three cashmere pullovers from Everlane. The fabric adds great texture to an outfit, and the crop hits at just the right place for me. But I also love the donegal best because it has pilled the least, or at least it hides it well. The black is hard to notice much pilling on because it’s so dark, but the camel shows it easily with its light shade. But I still love it and wear it all the time. Recently, one of my favorite ways to wear it is tucked into high-waisted jeans; it feels sort of Frenchy to me, and I love that.
I have never dry-cleaned or washed any of my cashmere sweaters. Sounds terrible, right? I make a point to always wear a thin, short sleeved tee underneath to help keep the sweater fresh. At the end of the day I drape my sweater some place where it has a chance to air out before I fold it up and put it away. Last time I wrote a blog post about cashmere you guys left amazing comments about laundering and caring for cashmere. I’m definitely going to follow some of that advice when I feel the need to wash.

I love a good cashmere sweater! One year for Christmas when I was in high school, my uncle gave everyone a nice cashmere sweater. Mine was hunter green and I wore that thing to pieces.
Despite my love of cashmere, I think it doesn’t love me as much because I always get sweaty wearing it. I’m a weirdo!
That’s interesting! Usually cashmere has a pretty good amount of breathability, but maybe not all of it! Your hunter green sweater sounds like it was awesome, especially the color!

Your Everlane cashmere sweaters look so good on you! I tried on the camel cashmere crew neck last year at their NYC showroom and ordered it, and the one I received fit differently than the one I had tried on in person. I emailed Everlane, and they mentioned that fit could sometimes vary item-to-item. A month later, I was back in NYC and visited Cashmere Cabin, where the sweater again fit differently (though the ladies working were surprised to hear I was told that fit would vary). I suppose I should have just tried on a bunch when they were doing their collab with Opening Ceremony!
I am really glad the cropped mockneck is included in the $100 cashmere, but I really wish it came in the Donegal. I may end up purchasing it in black, but I’m not sure. I also really like their luxe wool, and they have the same cut in that fabric too. Decisions, decisions!
That’s really interesting about the fit. I’ve noticed that with jeans, but never a sweater. But yeah, I think these things are often cut in bulk. Yes, tough decisions! There is a second set of styles coming later this week! More decisions, eek!
I have the cropped crew from last year in charcoal and wear it all the time. I’ve actually been trying to find the donegal second hand, but it’s never for sale in my size. I love love love that it’s a cropped V this year since I feel like it’s more flattering for me and less warm (I live in a warmer climate). The one from last year has pilled a bit but I just use a little comb to remove the pills and it has held up really well. Good as new.
Good call on the combing idea, I should do that too! I think the cropped V is super cute, BUT I don’t know how I’d wear a shirt underneath it, so I totally shied away from that one.
I can’t swing a purchase right now so I hope these are available longer than some of their recent quickly-sold-out items. I’m glad you showed one of the crops, I otherwise would have immediately skipped over it but now maybe I’ll consider it.
I bet they’ll be around for the better part of the fall and winter! Yes, the cropped crew was my fav, but this year it looks like they only have the crop with a mock neck.
I definitely need to check out their new collection. I have been craving a cashmere sweater for years now, and would love to have one I know is produced ethically without spending an arm and a leg.

Yes, Everlane is a great place to buy one! They have a really nice selection of styles and colors. I wear mine soooo much because they are so soft, and warm without being bulky.

Just as a head’s up, it can be helpful to wash sweaters before storing them for the summer, because apparently the sweat, little bits of skin, etc. is part of what attracts them. I don’t wash my sweaters very often (I also wear them with a t-shirt underneath), but have found that tip useful! Then again I bike to work in my sweaters so maybe it’s more of an issue for me ^^;

I adore cashmere, but with an annual LOW temperature of about 75 degrees F, I can hardly justify adding more than 1 to my wardrobe. I already have a Scottish cashmere that I make a point of wearing at least once around Christmastime. Everlane’s cashmere is certainly on my list of “to buy when we move somewhere cold”. Thanks for your review! I too hope they add in some vintage styles, even though their standard cuts seem so classy.

I have a few reeeaaly old tight t-shirts (cause that’s how I used to wear them! ><) from Old Navy that I use. BUT, I was thinking about getting a fitted pima shirt in a size down for the very reason of layering it underneath my cashmere sweaters.
I wear an Eileen Fisher silk tee under my sweaters—I like it better than cotton because a sweater glides over. I watch for Nordstrom to have sales on them. Her silk turtlenecks work well too. Sadly, I live in Florida now and my sweaters languish in my cedar chest.

I’ve loved the donegal on for the last couple years, so today I snatched one up first thing in the morning, haha! I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much, but I can’t wait for it to arrive!

Hi Andrea, my mom always advised me not to wash my cashmere, but to put it just a short while in the tumble dryer with cold air, to freshen it up. No harm to the fabric, and never had any complaints about smells :) And indeed always wear a t-shirt underneath. The donegal is my favourite as well!

Hi, Andrea! Totally off topic here, but wondered if you might have some insight…I’m hunting for a unicorn raincoat, which in my case means sturdy enough to handle playing outside with my toddler in a decent downpour, but also breathable enough to wear in the rain when it’s 70-80 degrees out. I’ve been eyeing the warbler from Bridge and Burn, but am nervous of taking the monetary plunge; do you have any experience with that particular coat, or any ideas to try? Thanks so much!

Do you live in a warm climate or cold climate? I have seen the warbler in person, and it is nice, lightweight fabric. But I don’t know if would last in a downpour. I have one of Bridge & Burn’s waxed canvas jackets, and that thing holds up to the rain really well! But it is a bit of thicker, heavier rain jacket.
Thanks Andrea!! We’re in Virginia, so on the warmer side of temperate, although I feel like most of our rain tends to come in spring or fall. I think my son would happily play outside in a monsoon, and I just hate to be the mom who says, ” No, no dear, let’s go sit in the house just because it’s raining.” ;)- I love the look of the waxed cotton ones, but I kind of think they might be a bit heavy. Is yours comfy in the 70s? Thanks again; your excellent review last fall is what made me think of asking you!
I would say the waxed cotton one is too heavy/warm for the 70’s. I’ve worn my lightweight anorak from Everlane in the warm weather and it’s great, but unfortunately it’s not available anymore. You could try to source on of those second hand. If not, maybe go for the warbler and make sure it’s returnable?

Just curious to know what your opinion is on the difference between Everlane cashmere and Grana cashmere?
My Everlane cashmere lasted only a few weeks before it was totally pilled and it sprang a hole under the armpit. Won’t buy from this brand again. I only give brands one chance these days. I like the aesthetics of Everlane but that’s just good m arketing

Most of my sweaters are wool and on the bulky side, but most days I prefer to wear the one in my closet that is thinner and sleeker. I too always wear something underneath to avoid washing, so I appreciate the tips on the undershirts! Sounds like I need to get over to Everlane and look at their cashmere…
