The Non-Shorts Approach

The ‘beat-the-heat’ party continues in the northwest today!

I have such mixed feelings about shorts. I like them because they’re super functional, but I also dislike them because I feel like a little kid when I wear them. That, and it’s hard to find a length that’s flattering but not frumpy. Bermuda shorts just don’t work for me, and everything else seems like thigh-exposure city. I do have my faithful vintage Levi’s and most days deemed shorts-worthy I wear those. But on other days, it’s these cropped pants. I have worn them probably more than I’ve worn shorts this summer because I feel so good in them. The fabric is soft and the wide leg makes them breezier than skinny jeans would be. But my favorite part is the way they look! It says I’m chill and a little bit cool. ;)

But lets talk about the real ‘star’ of this outfit, the lovely, drapey muscle tank. It’s kind of like wearing air, but less see-through ;) I know muscle tanks are totally trendy right now, but I couldn’t resist following the crowds on this one. It’s an easy way to style myself with an effortless tomboy look. I bet this muscle tank would contrast nicely with tailored pants, or heels and a blazer.

Are you thinking about fall clothing yet, or are you swimming in summer? I don’t want to usher in fall early, I’m a big fan of trying to enjoy the present, but the first day of school is looming large on the calendar in a little over a week, so it’s hard to ignore! While I continue to spend a few more days poolside, I’ll be mulling over my fall list and excitedly planning out a few new looks.

  1. Cute! I have Everlane’s muscle tank in the same color (and love it!) but find the neck hole to be a little tight. This version looks like it might have a better fit. I like it.

    1. This one isn’t too bad, slightly snug, but not terrible (and I think my noggin’ is on the bigger side). Glad to hear you are getting good use out of your muscle tank!

    1. Thank you friend!! I’ve gotten so many compliments on it, it’s crazy! :) It’s great for once to really feel confident about my hair! :)

  2. I’m totally with you on this one! I have been avoiding wearing shorts, I’m so much more comfortable in pants. Love the cropped pants idea!

  3. I’m not fond of shorts in air-conditioned buildings (too breezy), so I generally wear pants or capris when out and about. My summer pants/capris tend to be loose-fitting, with elastic-waists and light fabrics (thin denim, crinkle cotton, etc.).
