San Francisco – What I Wore + Where I Went

Earlier this week I shared my detailed packing list with you guys. We headed out of town for a week, and I managed to fit just about all of it into a small, carry-on sized suitcase. I was pretty darn pleased with the ease of getting dressed and the level of my satisfaction each day.

Please excuse the myriad of photos. I was on vacation, and stellar photos were not at the top of my list, I was eager to relax and spend time with my family. But I wanted to document and share with you guys, so I snapped half-decent pictures along the way.

Without further adieu…

DAY 1:

Travel day! We finished cleaning our house for our Airbnb guests and drove down to the in-laws for a block party. Right before bed, I remembered  to snap a photo. Tired, but happy!

Jumpsuit, REIFhaus | Sandals, old Everlane (similar) | Half Moon Necklace, c/o Claus Jewelry

DAY 2:

I spent the morning watching the eclipse in my pajamas – awesome! Finally got dressed and headed out to eat with the extended family at a local favorite.

Dress, Everlane, sold out | Sandals, Everlane, sold out (similar) | Backpack, c/o Everlane (love it! Perfect travel bag!) | Cardigan, c/o IMBY | Sunglasses, c/o Zappos

DAY 3:

Made the quick (1 hour) car trip down to Eugene to drop off our dog (and apparently half my stuff!) and spend a little time with my parents. We always enjoy visiting the University of Oregon campus, where both Mr. Seasons and I went to college. We graduated from the same program, with the same emphasis (one year apart), but did not meet until our first jobs out of college! The UO is a special place for us, we even got married on campus!

This is my favorite picture from the set because this little man has my heart. Sadly, it is also my last photo with my DSLR of the whole trip! I managed to make do with my cell phone, which I upgraded for the better camera, but there were certainly some situations where I wish I’d had it.

Pyne & Smith Dress | Sandals, Everlane, sold out (similar) | Backpack, c/o Everlane

DAY 4:

Driving day! Yes, we drove the eight hours from Eugene to San Francisco. The kids did great. They listened to music on their headphones a lot, read books, and of course pestered us with questions. >< Mr. Seasons taught them the license plate game, which took up a good amount of their attention on the way down and back. It was like a freeway easter egg hunt! I wore my jumpsuit, again, because it’s the best thing to wear when traveling!

Jumpsuit, REIFhaus | Half Moon Necklace, c/o Claus Jewelry | Sunglasses, c/o Zappos

DAY 5:

Let the fun begin! It was our first full day in the bay and we wasted no time getting started. We poked around Sausalito and Fort Baker, to see some sights from my childhood. We spent some time at the Bay Area Discovery Museum, which was so fun for the kids. Mr. Seasons and I happily relaxed and let them dive in and touch everything in sight. Later in the day, we crossed the bridge, had sourdough bread and clam chowder, walked along the waterfront, and enjoyed some touristy sites. It was quite chilly with the wind, but the clouds burned off nicely by the afternoon. It cracked me up to see people everywhere wearing winter coats in August!

Everlane Petra Backpack

Sweater, Everlane (sold out, but I heard new cashmere styles are coming this fall!) similar option | Jeans, vintage (similar) | Shoes, Birkenstock | Backpack, c/o Everlane

Vintage Levi's

DAY 6:

This day I had a few special stops planned, including a visit to meet the team at Everlane! It was really fun, and everyone was so nice. I happened to visit during their denim preview (they had customers come in and try them on and write a review), so I joined in on the fun. I brought a few pairs home, and I’ll be reviewing them for you guys next week!

And, if you’re one of my email subscribers, you’ll have the chance to shop the jeans a few hours before they release to the public! You can sign up with my pop-up, or opt in with the box on the right side.

Everlane Fit Lab

The fit lab is really cool! I loved being able to see and touch so many products in person. It was truly a different experience than shopping online! If you’re ever in NYC or SF, I highly recommend it.

Everlane Wide Leg Pants in Ochre

Leather Jacket, Reformation (limited sizes > similar)  | Shirt, Everlane | Wide Leg Pants, Everlane (I sized down!) | Birkenstocks | Sunglasses, Ray-Ban

Surprise! I added two new items to my suitcase. I was shopping for shoes at Everlane, but ended up getting these pants and shirt instead. The refined Wide Leg pants have a new fabrication that is supposed to stretch out less. On a whim I tried on a size down, and liked the fit better than my previous pair.

I was down to one pair of shoes for the remainder of the trip (see previous post), and thankfully they were my most comfortable ones! They may not have been my first sartorial choice, but my feet were happy. I wore my leather jacket quite a bit on this trip, and daresay, I think I finally really like it. Love is a bit strong at this point, but I think I’m starting to fall for it! Often I find I need to wear an item over and over again before it really grows on me.

My family spent some time at Mission Dolores Park while I was at Everlane. If you come to SF with kids, this place is a must – you can’t see it in this pic, but there’s a huge slide and play area!

Bryr Clogs

I drug my family out to the Dogpatch part of town to try on some clogs. The gals that work at Bryr are AWESOME! You can see Erin chatting it up with my curious eight-year-old in the background. I got a good idea about fit, and seeing styles in person was fun. I’m thinking about ordering these next spring!

We finished the day by having BBQ nearby at Smokestack, where we ended up sitting next to another family with small kids. We instantly hit it off with the parents, bonding over drinks and parenting stories. The kids became fast friends and enjoyed each others’ silly antics. I think we were there for two hours! A crazy-fun addition to our day’s adventures.

DAY 7:

I started this morning by meeting my friend Harben for coffee! She and I have gotten to know each other over Instagram the last few years and it was super fun to meet in person! We took this pic in front of the Mill but actually grabbed coffee a few blocks down the street at another cute coffee shop. Harben is amazing. She’s smart and kind, and we had a great time connecting in person. And her style game is fierce.

After Harben and I said our goodbyes, my family and I headed in search of Chinatown. It was way more commercialized than I remember, but maybe I was just young and naive before. We ended up having dim sum in the financial district, and then later got some awesome dumplings in outer Richmond.

Vintage Levi's Round Sunglasses

Top, Miranda Bennet, sold out | Jeans, vintage (similar) | Sandals, Birkenstock | Sunglasses, c/o Zappos

Reformation Leather Jacket

Lastly, we wandered around Golden Gate park a bit. Wow, what a beautiful place! I feel like I could have spent a lot more time there. I love the trees in San Francisco, particularly the eucalyptus trees. The smell always brings waves of nostalgia for me, plus they’re beautiful!

DAY 8:

Pyne & Smith Dress

Lastly, on the drive home I wore my white linen dress. Linen is such a great travel companion because it handles a variety of temps well, and when you wash it, it air dries super fast. You never have to worry about your clothes being ready to wear by morning.

Overall, it was great to get out of dodge and visit a place that’s different than home. It is always a breath of fresh air and a reminder of why I like home so much. It was the perspective I needed! Do you feel like traveling gives you a perspective shift?

Here’s to more traveling in the future!

  1. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the Everlane denim! I have my fingers crossed that they’ll fit my curvy figure, as my local tailor seems to struggle with altering denim. Looks like you had an amazing time!

  2. Glad you enjoyed San Francisco! I lived a block away from Dolores Park for many years, and it was a BIG DEAL when they added in that playground. The twenty-somethings in the neighborhood liked to hit up that slide late at night, but I will neither confirm nor deny that I took part in such antics ;)

    1. HAHA! Well, Oregon and California are huge states! It takes about four hours just to get across the narrow part of Oregon! Or total for the drive home was 10 hours! We’re not as lucky to be nearby so much as you Euros! ;)

  3. What a nice trip! And yes, traveling totally gives me perspective! I sometimes will even pretend that I’m visiting LA instead of living here, and it makes walking around my neighborhood feel sort of magical. I pay attention to character it has so much more.

I grew up in the Bay Area, and the temperature swings are so bananas. I used to hate having to wear heavy coats in the morning that I knew I’d be carrying around all afternoon. But you managed to look so cool the whole time!

    1. That’s such a great idea! I’ll have to keep that in mind with Portland a little more. Though I’m still in awe of a lot of, 2.5 years later!
Ugh, that sounds like Oregon, except it’s rain I’m always paranoid for (do I need my rain jacket?)…

    1. Thank you Steph! It has definitely taken a dip here the last two days, and school started, so it totally feels like fall. So weird! But I think we’re in for a hot spell soon, probably the last one!

  4. I’m super excited to hear about the new Everlane jeans! I was too lazy to make the preview fit into my schedule and now I’m kicking myself that I didn’t go! Also, you did a great job balancing touristy sites with more local spots, I’ll need to keep this guide in mind the next time visitors ask for recommendations :)

    1. Aw, I’m honored that you’d call this a guide! I didn’t even include all we did, but it was fun!
The jeans are great! I’m excited to share more next week!

  5. Note to self after reading this…take the time to visit Golden Gate park! I also found Chinatown a bit too touristy, until I decided to follow to the end of the rabbit hole and then found stores in the area that i like to call “where they don’t even bother putting signs in English anymore and you don’t hear English”, I went inside a dodgy-looking bakery and had a mooncake that was absolutely divine, all fresh and moist, and much cheaper. That area of Chintown was less pretty, more gritty, and yes, I realized that this was because this was where people actually lived and shopped.

    1. Hi Rosabella! You know, I wondered if that was the case! That is really good to know. When I was a kid we used to go to some back alley place and buy bags of unfolded fortune cookies, that were still warm from being baked! They were such a treat. Next time I’ll have to spend more time there.

  6. This post is giving me the travel lust bug……..I have always wanted to go to San Fran! I have spent plenty of time in southern California, but have never made it north of LA. A good friend recently moved to the Bay area, so I have even more of an incentive to get there now. How did the AirBnB work out on your home in Portland? Had you done that before? I am excited to see Everlane’s denim as well, although I am pretty set at the moment. My denim thrifting game has been on point the last few months!

    1. Hi Rebecca! You should go to SF, it’s such a fun place! It’s kind of big, but it’s an adventure for sure. The Airbnb went great! The people were so nice and cared for our home as if it were theirs. We can home to a clean house with no dishes and even clean sheets! Overall it was a fun and positive experience! We would definitely do it again!

  7. The Everlane sweater looks so comfy! I’m trying to be more proactive and I’m on the hunt for a couple of long sleeve tees and staple sweaters to add to my closet. Currently eyeballing a couple of sale things at Amour Vert, but I’m a little nervous bc they are final sale and I’ve never tried their stuff before!

Also – I got a new phone and caved and got Instagram :p

    1. Ahh! What’s your handle Anne? I have never owned anything from Amour Vert, but their stuff looks really nice! I am looking for another long sleeve tee myself, Everlane is releasing some ribbed ones that look pretty nice!

    2. Hi, I just bought two Amour Vert Angela Surpluce shirts. They are AMAZING. I went back to buy a third and it was sold out in my size. The comfort and quality are unbeatable. I also received a complimentary tote, which is super cute. Even though they are pricey I will defintely buy more!
