Okay, I know, I know, it’s only February first. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say I had spring on the mind. I’ve been mentally prepping for what kinds of outfits I’d like to style for the upcoming season, and thoughts of Birkenstocks and sunny afternoons are starting to cross my mind with more frequency.
I’ve been keeping a close eye on a short list of designers and brands in anticipation of the release of their SS17 collections, and today I’m excited to give you a sneak peek of one of my favorite labels! I asked Haley, of Only Child if I could give you guys a preview of what she has in the works for Spring, since I was dying to see it myself. Hope you enjoy it too.
A quick refresher if you’re new to Seasons + Salt and haven’t shopped Only Child before. It’s a one-woman show. Everything is designed and made by Haley in her Oakland, California studio. Ethics is at the heart of the brand, Haley works to source deadstock fabrics as much as she can and strives to create timeless pieces. In her own words:
I like to think about all of my clothes like classics with a twist, I want them to be wardrobe staples but still fun enough make people think “where did she get that?”.
Denim is a big theme for Only Child this spring. The timeless fabric is inspired in part by Haley’s style muse, her own mother, circa the 1990’s.
I grew up near the beach in San Diego and remember all of the amazing Summer outfits my mom wore in the 90’s. She would wear loose, high waisted pants with a button up shirt tied in the front to accentuate her waist or, on rare occasions, a simple linen dress. She is still one of my biggest sources of style inspiration because she has such a good eye for classic pieces and silhouettes.
>> To supplement her deadstock fabric supply Haley uses 100% natural fabrics, including cotton, linen and tencel.
>> This season Only Child has expanded its size offering to include XS-XL.
>> The pieces in this collection range from $140 to $255.
