Wearing Lately…

Now that the 30×30 is over, you might be wondering, what on earth is Andrea wearing?! With the conspicuous absence of my 7 Days of Outfits posts, I have felt pretty darn anonymous in my outfits lately, and it’s a a little bit weird. But the reprieve from daily documentation has been nice. We’ve been running around doing summer things, like visiting family in other cities, but I managed to snag a few days of outfits to share with you you guys.

Here’s what I’ve been wearing lately…

Linen Dress, Everlane | Sandals, Birkenstock | Tote, c/o Fashionable

We jetted down to my parents for the Fourth of July, for some small town parade action and a lot of BBQ. I tried out this linen dress by Everlane for the first time, and I really like it…. except for the racerback detail. I love how breezy it feels, but I am struggling to come up with a good bra to wear with it. On this day I opted for a sports bra, and it was a little uncomfortable to wear it for so many hours. If you have a favorite racerback bra, let me know! Otherwise the dress is super breezy and comfortable.

Linen Shirt, c/o Tradlands | Dress, Everlane (sold out) | Sandals, Birkenstock | Tote, c/o Fashionable

This is my, I-have-to-go-grocery-shopping-and-I’m-not-thrilled-about-it face. I grabbed this shirt as a layer in case the stores I was going to were AC-heavy, but I didn’t end up needing it. It’s new, from Tradlands, and I’m excited to share more about it in Friday’s post.

Linen Top, Only Child x Seasons + Salt | Skirt, c/o Bridge & Burn (sold out) | Sandals, Birkenstock | Tote, c/o Cuyana | Necklace, c/o Loop Jewelry | Hat, Cuyana

Testing out this Only Child x Seasons + Salt Alta top in a new combo with this black skirt, and I love it! I’m a big fan of the trapeze hemline, which gives the impression of a smaller waist (I can use all the help I can get this summer because of three little letters – IPA). On a side note, I’ve been blown away by how many of you have ordered this top! It’s been such a great staple for me, and I hope it is for you too. On this day I wore it fresh off the clothes line, no time to iron, and I love the textured look.

Oh, hello there taupe Birks. I did something very indulgent and bought myself another pair of new Birkenstocks. And then I promptly overthought my decision, and wrung my little hands wondering if I had made the right choice. (Did I really need another pair? Should I have gotten white?) Let me back up a minute. I love my black ones, and Birkenstocks are usually the first shoes I reach for any given summer day, especially as the temperature climbs. I had been feeling a desire for a lighter version of the style I love so much. In fact, I twice bought and returned the same style in tobacco, trying to convince myself not to add another pair. Ultimately, I gave in and bought the suede taupe. I’ve been overanalyzing my purchase for the last 24 hours, and I hope it was the right one. This color and style combo definitely harkens to the classic, grungy Birkenstock of days gone by. I’m not sure how I feel it that yet. About that patchouli…

Happy summer my friends! Be sure to get some sun on your face and some dirt on your toes this week. xo!

  1. Love these! My fav is the Alta top with the skirt. Very playful and flattering while still age-appropriate. Don’t overthink the Birks – they are good for your health! Seriously – I’m a runner and I’ve read so much about how most people wear cheap flip flops in summer and end up ruining their feet. The Birks will keep your feet happy, and you can wear them as slippers in the winter (maybe even with socks if no one is home).

    1. Hi Mel! Gosh, the comment age-appropriate has me 🙈, that factor never crosses my mind, but perhaps it’s about time?? I’m pretty modest by nature so I haven’t given it much thought in the past. And yes, great point about the Birks!

  2. Oh Birks! I’m sending my black pair out to have the cord replaced and I’ve been thinking about getting a inbetween color like these. (which I don’t neeeeed but they are throw and go shoes….ugh). This color way is really cute on you and it seems like it will match right up with everything.
I really enjoyed the 30×30, your pant game is SO GOOD. Those olive green ones have me saving up. :)

    1. Hi Katie!!! So good to hear from you! Those Olive pants would be so good on you! I hear ya on the shoes. Quick earns a lot of points in my book!

  3. I have the Everlane linen racerback in grey, it took me a few tries but I’ve had success with a calvin klein racerback bralette. It looks like a sports bra, but not restrictive. It’s not supportive, but sometimes I’ll layer a strapless bra under the bralette.

  4. I’ve always struggled with racerback too! A couple of years ago I found an awesome strapless bra, and that’s my fail safe for anything with a trick neckline or sleeve situation. ;)

  5. Hi Andrea. Just thought I’d chime in with my opinion about the Birkenstocks. I’d return them and get white instead. It would be much more bold and graphic. The taupe pair is just so similar in mood to the black. And yes, kind of hippie as you were saying. Just my thoughts. You look wonderful in all the looks.

    1. Great feedback Mary Beth, and those are the reasons I almost went with the white. In the end they just felt a little too bright! That and they weren’t leather, and my non leather ones are cracking at the foot bend so I didn’t want another. But I love the white on others!

  6. Glad you’re enjoying summer!

Good to see some of your looks though. Love your top with that black skirt! Great classic combo. If you wear birkenstocks a lot just go with your gut in regards to color.
I currently only have 3 pairs of sandals and only 2 I can wear during pregnancy (my nisolo Serena sandals and my black thong style Birks.) I tried to add the Everlane bridge sandals but they are so hard and have no support/ cushion/ comfort at all which was a bummer. Next summer I’ll try again for something like that.

I like the linen dress, when I tried the t shirt version it was really see through so I returned it. Due to my chest size I only feel comfortable in regular bras so I can’t help you there, but I think Caroline posted about a great strapless bra today during their summer10x10.

My no shopping until September 1st, or after the baby’s born is still going strong, and super hard lol. I am finally hitting the point where I am over wearing my 16 piece maternity capsule and want my regular closet back. However, I am trying to be thankful for a happy, healthy pregnancy and not stress too much about trivial things like clothes right now.
I have been curating a wish list for fall/ winter in the meantime which has been fun.
Have a good rest of your week! Xo!

    1. Hey girl! Always good to hear from you! Isn’t it funny how curating a wish list can help satisfy some of that urge to shop?!
I love your perspective on things, it’s so easy to get distracted from the important things. Way to go on keeping them in focus. ❤️

  7. Good call on the light birks. Not white. Taupe or tobacco will be much better with olive pants or other creamy neutrals you wear. My favorite travel “capsule” from the nineties included taupe suede arizonas. A classic!

    1. Totally a classic! An original Birk style. And yes, you nailed it, hoping to pair them with my oh so fav creamy neutrals. (Great phrase, I might have to steal it!)

  8. I’ve ogled that Everlane linen dress more than once…but ultimately the racerback (and especially the huuuuuge arm holes) have been a deal-breaker for me. I don’t want to have to buy another thing to wear under it, and I refuse to wear a tank top or something under a dress when it’s 100+ degrees in Texas (hence the need for linen). Makes me sad, because they’re out of my size in all the other linen items I’m drawn to and I’m sweltering. Any suggestions for other places to buy linen (especially knit linen) tops/dresses?

    1. Hi Devon, I hear you, all around! I wish the same thing about the armhole. I do feel the racerback gives it a sporty feel and actually makes it less hot to wear, but yeah, about those undergarments…
As for where to look, I don’t know about knit, but have you tried Pyne & Smith? They have great linen dresses!

  9. I purchased some bras from Lively recently, and the one I ended up keeping has a hook on the back of one of the straps to turn it into a racerback style. You get the best of both worlds without having those “removable straps” that always fall out.

  10. Can I ask what size in the Everlane dress you’re wearing? The reviews online say it is cut narrow through the hips, which is not ideal… it looks great on you, so thought I might give it a go.

  11. With race back tops I usually layer a strapless bra under a bralette. Or, the cheater version of a bralette is actually just a cotton sports bra from Target in a size up, lol.

I was on Reddit’s fashion forum and was reading through a couple of threads that made me think of you, interesting discussions here if you want to skim through it!

    1. Those are so interesting, especially the second one! I just spent way too much time reading it. I didn’t love 2000’s fashion and I’m super curious to see what the future holds. But like the one commenter said, i sure hope it includes the fall of fast fashion.

  12. The taupe suede birkenstoocks were my first pair (25 years ago!) and I still have a pair in that color. Eternal favorites.

  13. The Patagonia barely bra fits all ethically made standards, is crazy comfortable and decently supportive for every day wear. I find it fits under nearly all racerback tops, athletic or not. The cups on all Patagonia tops drive me crazy but are easily removed. Everything Patagonia lasts forEVER

    1. P.S. Love those Taupe Birks! I have the black pair (my staple), but the taupe have been on my wishlist forever.

  14. I’m having the same struggle with wanting another pair of Pons Avarcas. I have a pair in taupe, and I wear them all the dang time. The way I see it, if you find something reliable that has been your go-to for 2+ seasons, don’t think twice about buying it in more colors (or the same color!).

  15. I love the linen Only Child tee in it’s slightly rumpled form! Now I’m even more glad I ordered one! Can’t wait for it to arrive.
