the Weekly Rundown: the end of J.Crew? + Why treating yourself is not the answer

Seasons and salt blog

In yet another convincing argument for a daily uniform, this professional, and mom of two, changed her life when she changed her wardrobe. She’s worn the same thing everyday for a year, and she looks great.

Is it just me or are skinny belts everywhere lately? I LOVE the look, especially when paired with vintage jeans. I kind of even want a red one after reading the article linked above. I love this one in deep wine from one of my favorite local makers.

Did you happen to catch any of Elizabeth Suzann’s warm weather preview on Instagram in the last few days? I grabbed a screen shot of what looks like some Clyde style shorts (hooray for shorts!) and a cropped linen tank. The simplicity of these items is very appealing. I’m going to have to put my wallet under lock and key when the line releases, and really think through what I might want/need for summer before I make any purchases. Everything, so far, looks beautiful and understated.

Retail giant J.Crew is rumored to be on the brink of bankruptcy. A recent piece from the New York Times paints a picture of a retailer that built its brand up under the image of a self-constructed muse while simultaneously loosing it’s identity. It’ll be interesting to see what comes next for the company.

‘Treating Yourself is Not the Answer.’ I read this post earlier in the week, after Alicia linked it. It hit on several truths that I just can’t get out of my mind. When we want to buy things, how often are we trying to distract ourselves from what we are truly facing in life? What would change if we stopped doing that?

Last year at this time I hosted a fun giveaway to celebrate the blog turning one. I loved hearing from so many of you, and it was great to be able to give something back. Since that was a year ago… that means the blog is turning two this week!! Check back before the weekend, I have something fun in works for Seasons + Salt’s second birthday!

And just for fun, what I was styling exactly two years ago – a look I still rock today!

Happy Easter friends! xo

OMG I love that daily uniform.

I actually just got a skinny belt, blessedly vintage at a really good price. I needed it to hold some pants up better lol. I think with a lot of the most trouser-y pants coming into style, it fits well.

Right?! Me too! Makes me want to wear it starting tomorrow. It also is a good reminder that all the fluff that creeps into my wardrobe isn’t necessarily helpful! Your belt sounds cute. I plan on keeping my eyes peeled at the thrift shop too!

The idea of a uniform for a year is terrifying and exciting! I really want to try this for a week or two at first and see how I feel. Renata says is has given her mental clarity – I would do anything for this at the moment. Between home, work and a little (monster-like) 5 year old boy, overwhelmed is how I feel at the start of every day.
I placed an order for Eli Suzann’s Georgia Tee a few weeks ago, hope I can pull it off!
I think I’m done with purchases for Spring, I really need to get down to wearing everything and enjoying them!
    Loved this roundup Andrea!

Thanks Pav! I agree mental clarity = invaluable. Keep me posted if you try it out. The Georgia Tee would be an amazing uniform piece.

Your round-ups are always great, but I especially love this one! I used to love J.Crew but have been super disappointed with the decline in their quality and fit, and the lousy selection of colors the past ~5 or so years. I have J.Crew tshirts that are 7 or 8 years old and still in great shape that I’ll be holding on to for the foreseeable future though! That uniform is super chic! My uniform is a very boring combination of a black top and jeans – I’m actually trying to figure out how to inject some style into this. :-)

I agree! I think I almost liked J.Crew better when they were just a ‘preppy catalog company.’ I remember saving and buying items in high school, and they were always well made, and the sweaters were 100% wool, which is hard to find now! Good luck with your uniform! Maybe try some accessories like a loose neckerchief. ;)
